History:
San Francisco City Lacrosse Club (SFCLC) was founded in 2002 by a small group of parents who wanted to provide high school boys with an opportunity to play lacrosse in San Francisco. We fielded our first team in Spring 2003 comprised of boys from both public and private high schools. In August 2004, SFCLC became a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Service section 501 (c) (3) making contributions to SF City tax deductible.
In 2003, SFCLC began a relationship with Lacrosse For Life, a program that provides services to under-served youth in San Francisco communities such as Bayview, Hunter's Point and Visitacion Valley. L4L sponsors a junior lacrosse team and as these boys graduate from middle school, SFCLC provides the opportunity for them to play on our boy's high school team. From the beginning, we have been a club that has been committed to making lacrosse accessible to all kids, regardless of financial circumstances.
Growth
The first Jamboree was held in 2006 and included teams from all over Northern California who eagerly participated and enjoyed a weekend of lacrosse in the City. In 2006, we also expanded to include boys' and girls' teams at the younger levels. In Spring 2009, we had 150 boys and girls playing on U9 to high school teams or participating in clinics (girls only). Youth lacrosse has experienced rapid growth, particularly on the West coast, and we have been fortunate to attract kids of all ages interested in playing the sport.
